Your Guide to a Safe List of Diaper Creams

Diaper creams and ointments are important to treat diaper rashes since it provides a protective barrier for the skin. For diaper rashes, remember to change the diaper frequently, and put the diaper cream on with each diaper change. Make sure the skin is dry before putting on the cream. You can see that even among the same brand there are safe and not safe diaper creams, so it is very important to read all the ingredients!

Hypoallergenic Diaper Creams & Ointments
1. Desitin Rapid Relief Diaper Rash Cream
- No fragrance or parabens
- This is my go-to diaper ointment for regular diaper rashes
2. Boudreaux’s Butt Paste for Sensitive Skin
- No fragrance or parabens
- Pure and few ingredients
- Thicker than Desitin
- I reserve this one for rashes that don’t improve with Desitin
3. Aquaphor 3 in 1 Diaper Rash Cream
- No fragrance or parabens
- Pure and few ingredients
4. Vaseline
- No fragrance or parabens
- Very pure ingredients
- Thinner than zinc oxide formulations so may need to layer zinc oxide on top
5. Triple Paste Diaper Rash Ointment
- No fragrance
- Contains oats so if your baby is allergic to oats would avoid this one
6. Honest Company Diaper Rash Cream
- No fragrance
- Thinner than the other diaper creams
- Contains sunflower seed so if your baby is allergic to sunflower seeds, would avoid this one
7. Baby Bum Diaper Rash Cream
- No fragrance
- Plant based
Maybe Ok
1. Earth Mama Organic Diaper Balm
- No fragrance
- Has lavender and tea tree oil which can sometimes be irritating
Avoid
1. Desitin Maximum Strength Baby Diaper Rash Cream
- Contains fragrance, which can irritate sensitive skin

- Contains peruvian balsam, which is a fragrance

- Contains peruvian balsam, which is a fragrance

- Contains peruvian balsam, which is a fragrance
5. A&D Original Diaper Rash Ointment
- Contains fragrance
6. Babo Botanical Soothing Diaper Cream
- Contains “natural fragrance” which is the same thing as fragrance
